About Woodley Waves

Celebrating 60 years, the Woodley Waves are a summer competitive swim team offering high-quality professional coaching and technique instruction for all ages and abilities.

We offer a place for children up to age 18 to build friendships that continue from summer to summer, developing a sense of community that strengthens as they grow older while becoming strong, safe swimmers.

The Woodley Waves are part of the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) Division D.

Every child is an important part of the swim team. Please support your children by giving them lots of encouragement and by volunteering to help the Woodley Gardens Waves be the best team they can be!

Coaches

Our coaches, as members of the American Swimming Coaches Association, have access to the most comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the time children spend in swimming will be quality time.

Swimmer Eligibility

If your family is already a member of the pool, your child, between ages 4.5-18, is eligible to join the team.

Have only one child in the family who wants to swim? Then take a couple membership at the Woodley Gardens Swim and Recreation Association. This membership will cover one adult volunteer as well as the swimmer.

Team Management

We are a nonprofit club, run by its elected Board of Directors. The Board meets periodically throughout the year. All members are welcome at each meeting and encouraged to be involved in team activities and fundraisers.

Practice

Join the Waves, and practice from Memorial Day through about the middle of July. Practices are in the afternoon until the school year ends.

Once school is out, practices are available every morning as well as Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons.

Team-wide practices end with the season's last meet. Swimmers who move compete in divisionals may continue to practice.

Meets

Meets are held on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Wednesday meets are open to team members who can swim a length in their chosen event.

Saturday meet participation is based on earning one of the top time slots for your age. You earn one of those slots either in the time trials or through swimming on Wednesday nights.
